Recent research has started to explore how this practice can also improve our physical health, particularly by affecting the immune system. This post reviews randomized controlled trials focused on the effects of mindfulness meditation on various immune system parameters.


Understanding Mindfulness Meditation


Mindfulness meditation is a practice that encourages individuals to pay attention to the present moment without judgment. By observing their thoughts and feelings calmly, practitioners can increase their emotional awareness and reduce stress. Research has shown that this increased mindfulness often translates into physical health benefits, particularly concerning immune function.


A study by Black and colleagues in 2015 found that participants engaging in mindfulness meditation experienced a 30% reduction in stress hormones. This hormonal decrease can lead to improved immune performance, showcasing how mindfulness can serve as a bridge between mental tranquility and better physical health.
